One night
24 Hours in Shanghai
A full day plus an evening and a morning. Enough to leave with an opinion about the city.
With one night, the shape changes: you are no longer optimising for a return flight, you are optimising for one good evening and one good morning.
Sleep somewhere central. The value of being able to walk out of your hotel into the city at 07:00 is worth more than a nicer room forty minutes away.
The plan
Arrive, drop bags, walk the Concession
Wukang Road and Anfu Road in the late afternoon. Low effort, high reward, and it adjusts you to the city.
The Bund and the ferry
Sunset on the waterfront, dinner somewhere in the Old City or on the Pudong side, ferry back.
Old City at opening
Yu Garden at 08:00, the temple, the old streets. Two hours, and you have the place to yourself.
Hongkou or the creek
If you want history: Hongkou. If you want galleries and flat riverside walking: Suzhou Creek to M50.

Questions
Everything on this site is written and re-checked on the ground. When something changes, this page changes.
Where should I stay for one night?
Anywhere on Metro Line 2 between Jing'an and East Nanjing Road. Line 2 connects both airports and the Bund.
Is one night enough for a museum?
One, yes. Two is ambitious. Pick the Jewish Refugees Museum or a West Bund institution, not both.
