Collaborate & contact

ShanghaiWalk is run by a small editorial team based in Shanghai. This page explains what we can do together, and how to reach us.

What this site is

ShanghaiWalk is an independent publisher of field-checked walking routes covering the whole of Shanghai. Every route is walked end to end by the editor who writes it — which metro exit to come out of, how long it really takes, and the date it was re-checked after something on the ground changed.

The site has English and Chinese editions, line for line. Most readers are independent travellers planning their own trips, plus locals who want a fresh look at their own city.

Who we are

The editorial team lives in Shanghai, each covering the neighbourhood they actually move through day to day — Hongqiao, Xuhui, Huangpu, Jing'an, Pudong all have someone. A route is walked and written by the editor for that area, then independently re-checked by another editor before it goes live.

Our call is editorial: what we write and what we recommend is decided by editors, not changed because someone supplied information or paid. Paid partnerships are labelled as such. When we get something wrong we fix it, and say why on the page.

Three things we can do together

1. Corrections and additions. You walk a route and find a door closed, a price changed, an exit moved — email us. This is the main way the site gets better, and the easiest kind of collaboration.

2. Venue and business listings. If your shop, your museum, your neighbourhood belongs on a route, send the basics (opening hours, price, how to find it). There is one test for inclusion: is it useful to someone walking this route.

3. Routes and commentary. If you know a neighbourhood at street level in a way no one else does, we can build it into a route together. Credit and division of work are settled before anyone starts.

Money

Money is discussed as needed. Corrections and basic listings we do not charge for. Work that involves a venue, a route or commentary is quoted case by case on what it actually takes — tell us what you want and what you can offer in an email, and we come back with a number. We handle no payment between you and any third party, and we do not book or guarantee anything.

How to reach us

Email works best. Put "correction", "listing", "collaboration" or "quote" in the subject and we answer faster. Usually within two business days.
