Money, plainly

How this site is funded

Short answer: some links on this site earn a commission, and we take paid partnerships. The one thing money never buys here is the editorial call.

Affiliate links

Some pages link to third-party services — eSIM providers, travel cards, airport transfers, booking platforms. If you buy through those links, this site receives a commission at no extra cost to you.

That is the disclosure required in most jurisdictions, and it is also just the honest thing to put on the page. Affiliate relationships do not change which route gets written or what it says: the routes are the product, and a route that sends people somewhere bad is a route nobody comes back for.

What money does not buy

The editorial call. No restaurant, hotel, museum or guide service can pay to change whether a route recommends it, or what the text says about it. Where a place is mentioned, it is because it is useful to the walk. A paid partnership is a separate thing, and if one exists on a page it is labelled as one.

Where things stand

ShanghaiWalk is an independent publisher of field-checked walking routes. Some pages use affiliate links; where they do, a note is shown by the link and our disclosure page explains how the site is funded. Our editorial choices are never influenced by commercial relationships.

Today the site earns from affiliate links, from paid partnerships, and from the guide directory, which the listed guides pay for. Commercial terms are agreed case by case: write and tell us what you have in mind, and we will come back with a quote. This page is updated before a new kind of deal starts, never after.
