Sample profile · the shape of a listed card
The Bund & Huangpu — the history line
The waterfront from the Customs House to Waibaidu, told as a trading-port story rather than a list of buildings — including which facades are 1920s originals and which are post-1990s work.
This card is a sample — nobody is behind it yet. It exists so you can see exactly what a listed guide gets: languages, the credential we check, the areas they actually work, the routes they cover, a reference band for budgeting, and how quickly they tend to reply.
Real profiles are filled in the same shape with the guide’s own words. Nothing on this card is written by us on their behalf.
What this guide covers
The stretch from the Customs House clock up to Waibaidu Bridge, plus the side streets behind the waterfront where the 1920s banking district actually survives: Yuanmingyuan Road, the former Hongkong and Shanghai Bank building, and the back lanes most walk-ups never turn into.
The through-line is the port: why the settlement grew north along the creek, who built what and when, and which buildings are original fabric rather than restoration. It is a history line, not an architecture lecture.
How a half day runs
Meet at a metro exit named in advance, not a hotel lobby. Four hours on foot with two sit-down stops, ending somewhere you can get a taxi or metro without backtracking. Roughly 3 km, almost entirely flat.
Early morning or the two hours before dusk. Midday on the promenade in July is a bad idea, and a guide who agrees to it is not doing you a favour.
Where the line stops
This is guiding and interpretation — walking with you and explaining what you are looking at. It does not include transport to or from where you are staying, buying tickets or reserving anything in your name, or holding a place in a queue.
The band above is for budgeting. The guide quotes you, you settle with the guide, and the two of you set the terms.
Routes this guide covers
One and a half hours, timed to the light: bridges, the promenade, the clock, then two yuan for the ferry back across the river.
Open → 2.5 hours · 4.5 km Suzhou Creek to M50Follow the creek west through warehouses, a 1930s post office and a battle-scarred warehouse, ending in the city's best cluster of galleries.
Open →This site publishes profiles and makes introductions. Nothing is booked, paid or guaranteed here: the quote, the timing and how you settle are arranged directly between you and the guide.
FAQ
Questions
Everything on this site is written and re-checked on the ground. When something changes, this page changes.
Is this a real guide I can request?
Not yet — this is a sample card showing what a listing looks like. Real profiles go up as guides apply and pass the credential check. Until then use the request form and we will point you at whoever fits.
How does the introduction actually work?
You pick one or more guides, tell us your dates and what you want to understand, and we send it through. Nothing is paid through this site — the quote and the arrangement are between you and the guide.
Can the guide buy my museum tickets for me?
Not through this site. Several Shanghai museums need real-name booking in advance; your guide can tell you exactly how to do it, but the booking and the payment stay yours.
